Marriage is permanent; until death do you part, but divorce is not a sin and if living a single chaste life, you are free to receive communion.
If you are divorced and wish to remarry, all prior marriages must first be reviewed. If any one of the marriages contains all essential elements required for a binding union, the marriage is binding, and you are not free to remarry. If the marriage fell short in at least one of the essential elements required for a binding union, the marriage would be "declared null", showing that the Bond of Matrimony was never created, freeing you to be Sacramentally Bound in Matrimony to another.
If you have not been Sacramentally Married by a Catholic Priest or Deacon or have been divorced and remarried and did not receive a "declaration of nullity" on all prior marriages, you may unknowingly be living in sin and should not receive communion until you have met with a Priest or Deacon, or, for divorce cases, an Assigned Catholic Case Sponsor, to determine or correct the state of your marriage.
Call the Church office to set up an appointment with a Priest or Deacon to learn about and receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. 931-645-6275
